Kennedys in Lowell and on Campus
The Kennedy family forged a bond with UMass Lowell and the community that is deep and enduring. In 1956, then-Senator John F. Kennedy came to campus to receive an honorary Doctor of Science in recognition of his public service and leadership. In the following years, the Kennedys returned to Lowell to campaign, stirring excitement that is captured in seldom-seen photos from the Poirier Collection at the University’s Center for Lowell History.
