Food Composting at University Dining Commons

In September 2013, UMass Lowell launched a pilot composting program at University Dining Commons in Fox Hall in which all food waste - from egg shells to half-eaten cheeseburger remnants - are collected, pulped and hauled to a local farm for composting. In the first month, an average of 526 pounds of food waste was collected each day at Fox Hall. UMass Lowell photos by Meghan Moore
